Proposals are invited for the provision of brokering services for the generation and delivery of arts and culture activities in the Henderson-Massey Local Board area.

The Henderson-Massey Community Arts Broker is supported by the Henderson-Massey Local Board and will tap into the existing creative community in Henderson-Massey to provide a range of temporary arts activity across the local board area. The role is modelled off the successfully operating community arts brokers in the Albert-Eden, Franklin, Māngere-Ōtāhuhu and Whau Local Board areas.

An initial budget of $25,000 has been allocated to fund the contracted hours of the community arts broker from October 2019 to June 2020.  A further project fund of $25,000 has been allocated to support and deliver arts activity.

Key skills sought

The community arts broker will develop a detailed work programme that delivers on key outcomes, including:

1. Build capacity and networks for the arts in Henderson-Massey- i.e. Create opportunities for networking and knowledge sharing between organisations, artists and community networks.

2. Audience development and awareness – i.e. promote existing and new arts activity in the area to people in Henderson-Massey, and to greater Auckland (e.g. online presence).

3. Celebrate Māori arts and culture - i.e. Increase opportunities for Māori arts and cultural expression and participation; develop projects with a wide range of artists and groups.

4. Ensure geographic spread of arts activity – i.e. enable arts and culture opportunities for underserved communities in the local board area so that new audiences can enjoy arts and culture in their everyday lives.

Proposals will demonstrate the ability to develop a strong network of relationships with creative communities in the local area and the ability to maintain working relationships with Auckland Council staff. The programme of work developed by the community arts broker will encompass delivery across the Henderson-Massey Local Board area; engage with and reflect the diversity of the area; activate existing public spaces, streets, parks, town centres, or empty shops; demonstrate partnership with other local community arts organisations and include a diverse range of art forms.

Proposals will be assessed using the following criteria:

• Awareness of community needs and themes

• Proven track record and arts sector involvement

• Strategic and planning approach

• Detailed methodology

• Pricing structure and approach
