Dreamcast Theatre has been running productions and performances since 2005.

Their mission is to create a space for young people to dream, explore and further their passion for the creative and performing arts. They know that allowing young people to explore issues important to them encourages personal growth and creates a more connected and informed community.

In this assignment you will work alongside the organisations current staff and volunteers, passing along your own knowledge and experience to encourage and grow their skills in playwriting through work-shops, seminars and one on one mentoring.

As a result of this, you will develop a play from group sessions with the artists, leading on to then support them to direct, produce and market this play to the public. You will also adopt a train-the-trainer type model to improve the standard of paid acting and playwright classes that are offered.

As the volunteer, you will also make an impact by reviewing operations and suggesting where changes could be made and improvements are needed. You will be creative with your suggestions and able to work within a limited-resource environment, always keeping the Solomon Islands culture at the heart of what you do.

This is a 12 month assignment based in Honiara. We are looking for a volunteer with:

  • Experience in the theatre industry
  • Experience in play and script writing
  • Experience directing plays and performance
  • Experience mentoring and teaching within a theatre context
  • Able to deliver quality and dynamic playwright classes for a range of age groups
