Massey University, in conjunction with Palmerston North City Council and Square Edge Arts Centre, invites applications to join the School of English and Media Studies as Visiting Artist Multimedia/Filmmaker for a 12-week period from mid-July 2020.

The successful candidate will have skills or experience in digital media production encompassing one or more of the following areas:

  • Fiction film
  • Documentary
  • Animation
  • Photography
  • Digital installations
  • Pervasive media design
  • Fiction film
  • Live art
  • Music
  • Live performance

While the residency will enable the successful candidate to set aside much of the time to develop their own work, the Visiting Artist will be required to work with both Massey University students and the community at large.

The Visiting Artist will be expected to:

  • have sufficient time to develop their own work
  • be supported by the Square Edge Arts team and engage with the city arts community in a manner that will enable people to benefit from the experience of the Visiting Artist
  • provide at least one presentation of work or workshop to the community
  • provide mentoring for Massey University students
  • assist in workshops for Massey University students
  • work closely with staff and students within the School of English and Media Studies.

The Visiting Artist will receive a salary of NZ$10,000 and rent-free use of the Apartment, an inspiring living space on the top floor of the historic Square Edge Art Centre in downtown Palmerston North.
