Artwork Commission for Parliament - Call for Proposals
Parliamentary Service Commission’s Artworks Committee is seeking design proposals for the commissioning of an artwork for the interior entrance area of the Beehive.
The commissioned artwork will be one of the first things that greets visitors as they enter Parliament through the main entrance into the Beehive.
The Artworks Committee is interested in artwork proposals that take into consideration the tangata whenua, our identity as New Zealander’s, our country’s landscape and/or the political environment. The artwork should be creative, innovative and celebrate the mana of New Zealand and Parliament.
The selected artist will create the final design and the finished artwork will become part of the Parliamentary Collection to be cared for by Parliamentary Service. While the artwork is intended to be a permanent fixture, this may change in the future depending on the changing environment of Parliament.
1. The artwork must be finished by the end of June 2020 so that it can be unveiled to coincide with Matariki in July 2020.
2. The space for the artwork is 2.1M tall and 3.5M wide. Although consideration will be given for designs that extend from that space as long as they don’t obstruct the use of the thoroughfare.
3. Please note that the entrance is not a temperature controlled area so it is preferred that the commissioned artwork will be of a more durable nature.
4. The artwork will be commissioned for a total of $15,000 including transportation costs. Installation costs can be negotiated nearer the time of completion.
Photographs of the planned space for the commissioned artwork can be found on the Parliament website at https://www.parliament.nz/en/get-involved/features/see-your-art-on-the-walls-of-parliament/.
