Nanogirl Labs is trying to change the world. We are a socially conscious business that creates products, services and experiences combining entertainment, education and technology. We are curious and passionate, and through our work combine our love of science and technology with a deep love of people, and a belief in their potential. We care about the world at large, but one key mission that drives us is the belief that everyone – Everyone - should have access to quality science and technology education, and that the future of our communities depends on that urgent mission.
Founders Joe Davis and Dr. Michelle Dickinson created Nanogirl Labs in 2016. The company currently owns and runs 'Nanogirl' - a children's character focused on exciting and inspiring young people in the STEM fields - at international best-seller The Kitchen Science Cookbook. We also get involved in consultancy projects to support companies driving innovation and investing in the STEM talent pipeline.
About the role
We are expanding our project delivery team. We are seeking passionate, organised, driven people with the skills needed to turn an idea into a beautifully executed reality.
At any given time we have a whole range of exciting projects on the go. At the time of writing we're developing a submersible robotic challenge, creating digital learning resources for several countries' education systems, launching into 4 international markets, developing a major new product line and producing live events both in NZ and internationally.
Our delivery team members are usually responsible for managing one or more projects, depending on the scale of those pieces of work. In this role you'd work with our amazingly talented team, our partners and our suppliers to deliver brilliant results. Whether we're working with a client organisation, a partner, or directly with our many thousands of fans around the world we strive to exceed their expectations - to be a genuine delight to deal with; to make the impossible seem easy and fun.
If you enjoy building new things, solving problems, and a job that changes from day-to-day - and if you're excited about joining a team in growth mode - we'd love to hear from you.
Benefits - Flexible and Remote Working
We are 'remote first'. The work we do (and the lives we choose) means we're on the move a lot of the time. Our goal is to create a 'remote first' working environment, meaning that our starting point is you work where you want to work - wherever that is in the world - and as far as possible work your hours when you want (allowing for collaboration and deadlines!). We keep a shared office space in Ponsonby that you're welcome to use at any time, and that will be the hub for major collaborations. Whatever we do though, we make sure that our work is online and accessible from wherever you are. Our hope is that, as well as enabling us to travel without losing productivity, it'll enable our team to live happy lives - to be part of our mission, and be able to live deeply through their own journeys and adventures. Working in the same place can be great, and sometimes it's the best way...but not always. We believe that by building our business 'remote first' from the get go, we'll make sure that team members around the world feel as much a part of the team as someone who chooses to work in our office.
We should note that, around that flexibility, this role may require you to travel from time to time – to meet key community members, run events, or take meetings etc. There will also be times where you are bringing the team together to collaborate, or set direction, and your management of these is key for driving progress in this project.
Skills and experience
We want someone who can:
Take ownership of and manage complex projects / part projects. You find satisfaction in getting your head around a brief, making a plan and (importantly) following through. You are comfortable with complexity, and naturally curious in a way that helps you uncover the unknowns in a new piece of work. You are highly motivated, and love challenging work.
Be adaptable and take on various support tasks when needed. You'll need to be a quick learner and enjoy the idea of a challenge; some projects come through very quickly and become resource intensive meaning all hands on board. Adaptability is very attractive.
Be resilient, comfortable with change and challenge. We move fast, and we are inherently a creative company. Despite robust planning and processes, sometimes the ground moves under our feet - or we just need to change direction. Sometimes we need to shift priorities, and do so quickly.
Hustle. We are here to make a difference at scale. You will often be breaking new ground, running into obstacles, and having to find a way past them. Persistent, driven and across the detail - you find your way through and you don't stop until you get there. You network easily and bring people together around projects.
Communicate brilliantly. You will often be a key point of contact for our customers. Whether in person, on the phone or in writing, you communicate professionally and with heart - you can clearly pass on details, persuade, build support, set expectations and negotiate...you also care about people, and they feel that as you communicate with them. You'll be talking directly with customers, suppliers and partners and able to create genuine 'surprise and delight' moments through those interactions.
Contribute to and use great systems. You'll need to be super organised, use our internal management systems consistently, and sometimes build new systems and processes around the work that you do.
NB. Our delivery team produce live events all over the world. Experience in event management and related fields is very interesting to us, but not essential.
…. And maybe you'll have some other amazing and valuable skill/experience that we haven't even thought of that would make you great at this job. We still want to talk to you
