College of Humanities and Social Sciences
The School of English and Media Studies is seeking to appoint a full-time (1.0 FTE) ongoing Lecturer in Theatre Studies to be based at Massey's Manawatū campus.
We are looking for a dynamic individual who will contribute to our Theatre Studies programme and support a portfolio of creative arts activities both on campus and in the wider community. Our programme is committed to theatre for social change, and to producing graduates who are able to critically reflect on practice and are equipped with practical skills to lead initiatives to transform communities. A key aspect of this position is developing our postgraduate research and supervision profile to entice artist practitioners to postgraduate study.
The School is located on Massey's three campuses in Wellington, Palmerston North and Auckland. This position will be substantially based in Palmerston North, where Theatre Studies and theatre scriptwriting contribute to the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Communication, Master of Creative Writing, and PhD in Creative Writing.
At undergraduate level, courses draw on actor/director training, play-making, documentary theatre, applied theatre, and the study of drama as literature. Our School also has a substantial distance programme, and some experience in online teaching will be considered an advantage.
The successful applicant will be an outstanding teacher who has completed an advanced degree in Theatre, Performance or other relevant area (PhD strongly preferred), with evidence of ongoing scholarly and/or creative research. We particularly welcome applications from people with an interest in creative activism or social justice, experience in working in interdisciplinary contexts, and/or a grounding in mātauranga Māori and kaupapa Māori approaches. The ability to teach into other programmes in the School would be particularly helpful.
The start date is negotiable, but we are hoping to confirm an appointment well before our summer theatre courses start in November.
Massey University values diversity and our School strives to offer a flexible, enabling and inclusive environment. Inquiries about the position may be directed to the Head of School, Associate Professor Jenny Lawn, at 09 213 6337 or email@example.com The university reserves the right not to make an appointment.
Applications close 11.30pm NZT Thursday, 2 April 2020.
Closing date: 2 April 2020
