Orchestras Central is looking for new board members. Here’s your chance to get involved with a passionate and committed organisation who believe all people of the Waikato can benefit from extraordinary orchestral experiences.  

Orchestras Central is a Creative NZ Investment client, having been granted entry into the  'Kahikatea' programme this year. We are a unique organisation in NZ, providing professional management to both community orchestras (Youth Orchestras Waikato, Trust Waikato Symphony Orchestra, and the Rusty Players) and to a professional ensemble. Governance of OCT is vested in a Board made up of seven to nine trustees who are appointed through an annual appointment process for a two or three-year term (and are eligible for re-appointment).

The Board has combined expertise in governance experience,knowledge of the orchestral arts sector, strong networks and financial skills. 

The Board oversees the activity of a professional management team that enable our four orchestras to deliver more than 30 events in our community each year. 

Particular skills/competencies sought 

The current Board is looking for expressions of interest from candidates who have:

  • A deep understanding and appreciation of the arts, and in particular orchestral music
  • Strong connections to the Waikato, in particular with business
  • A comprehensive understanding of Te Ao Māori
  • A fundamental belief in how music contributes to community wellbeing
  • Governance experience or aptitude 

Commitment required

Meetings are held monthly on Friday afternoons in Hamilton, and are scheduled for 2 hours. In addition to these meetings, board members will also commit to an annual strategic planning session, regular communication by email, and attending some of our events as required.
