The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) leads New Zealand's housing and urban development work programme. It's not just about housing – our focus is on people, and the homes and communities they are part of.
The System and Organisational Performance group helps shape and support the delivery of HUD's purpose and strategic direction. The group includes functions that ensure HUD is delivering on our cross-system leadership role (connecting across the sector and delivering on our purpose and outcomes), help build and support our organisation through supporting and enabling our people, and that support effective communications and engagement with the public and our stakeholders.

This is a great opportunity for you to make your mark in this newly established, 1 year fixed-term role. We're keen to hear from innovative content writers to help us tell the HUD story. You will have the opportunity to build a solid foundation for content development and storytelling across HUD channels from the ground up.
You will be joining a friendly, professional Engagement and Communications Team. Reporting to the Team Leader, Corporate Communications and Channels, you will support the development and implementation of a content strategy for HUD, across internal and external channels, with a strong focus on social media.
In this role you'll also work closely with others within the team, including our Graphic Designer, to bring stories to life through video and photography.
This role is all about relationships. As this is a newly created role, we need someone who will engage with others externally and across the business, and encourage adoption of new approaches to sharing content and telling HUD's story.
You'll also be big on continuous improvement, utilising data and analytics to inform decision-making on our content and social media presence.
About you | Mōu
You'll be a natural storyteller, a relationship builder and have a proven track record of writing great content and understanding which channels to use to effectively share the story. Drawing on your experience of developing content and using social media platforms for maximum effect, you'll be comfortable working at pace, juggling deadlines and delivering quality outputs.
You'll be hands on, happy to get stuck into the day to day work, as well as developing strategic digital channel initiatives for the ministry.
Being a small, but perfectly formed, and relatively new ministry, we're open and receptive to new ideas and fresh thinking. You may come from a government background, or maybe not! It's more about what you bring to HUD and how we can help you grow your career.
Your background will include:
- Demonstrated experience of online content creation and development of digital strategy for websites, intranet and social media
- Experience of writing and creating appealing content for different audiences and channels
- Knowledge and understanding of web content best practice, including accessibility and plain language
- Understanding of and experience managing social media accounts, including experience monitoring and interpreting analytics
- Video and photography experience would be an advantage
- Experience conducting content audits and redesigning content for website/intranet is desirable
- Be a natural communicator and influencer of people, bringing them along with you.
