MOTAT is an interactive museum with a focus on creating a fun, visually stimulating environment for its visitors, especially children, families and education groups. It is home to a unique mix of collections and experiences and our vision is to educate and inspire the innovators of tomorrow.
One way we do this is by creating exhibitions and experiences that bring science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) to life alongside our heritage collections and innovations from New Zealand’s current leaders in these fields.
As Exhibitions Manager, you will manage and lead our award-winning Exhibitions Team in the continual development and delivery of a complex programme of exhibitions that embody MOTAT’s vision. This is an exciting time as we also aspire to enhance the te ao Māori lens through which our exhibitions can be developed, to engage and grow our Museum audiences.
Responsible for the development of temporary, long-term and touring exhibitions, you will play a central role in ensuring that the MOTAT visitor experience is aligned with the vision, audience and collection.
Skills and Experience
Successful candidates for the role will bring a minimum of 5 years’ experience in exhibition development and delivery. You will have proven management and leadership experience with high-performing teams, gained through a museum or visitor attraction environment, including responsibility for the achievement of vision through creative concept development, programme and budget. Ideal candidates will also have demonstrated understanding of mātauranga Māori and experience incorporating both te ao Māori and te reo Māori into the development of visitor experiences.
