Doc Edge is the home for storytelling that changes your world.

The Documentary New Zealand Trust (Doc Edge) is a not-for-profit organisation founded in 2004 to promote documentary storytelling, create healthy audience appreciation for documentaries and make New Zealand a documentary destination on the world stage.

Doc Edge has created a world-class documentary event in New Zealand that celebrates excellence in filmmaking. It showcases local and international films, stories of impact, and features critically acclaimed and award-winning screenings.

In 2021 Doc Edge will deliver a hybrid festival environment with both online and physical festival opportunities. June 2021 brings to New Zealand a Doc Edge Month.

Dates: Auckland 3rd June – 7th June (Queens Birthday Weekend) Sky City Theatre and foyer
Auckland 10th – 13th June The Civic and foyer
Wellington 17th – 20th June & 24th – 27th June The Roxy and foyer

Around the physical festival Doc Edge wish to create a festival village and hub at all our venues. This will include arts installations, live performances and VR/AR exhibition.

Doc Edge wish to put a call out for submissions from Artists from all disciplines to be a part of the Festival village and a part of creating a festival atmosphere. A hub where everyone can come together to enjoy entertainment and conversation - the heart of our festival community.

Admission is free and it is open from 10am – 10pm throughout the festival.
Music, Dance, Spoken Word, Visual arts, Photography, Painting, Mime, Multi disciplinary art forms. All artist submissions considered that would be suitable in a foyer or stage space. We are also interested in cultural groups from around the world to create an International atmosphere.

Words for inspiring your submission:
Think AR/VR, future technology, environmental, climate change, Covid-19, accessible, inclusive, family, revolution, unexpected discovery, culture, war, new storytelling formats, comedy, ocean, aging, hope, love, life, journey.

Think live painting, performance, audience participation.

Dates to Note:
Submissions Open Monday 1st February
Submissions Close Friday 26th February 5pm
Shortlist Notified Friday 26th March
Successful Applicants Notified Friday 23rd April

How to apply

Submissions to include:

Description of project, link to any online examples, images and estimated fee for budget.

Also please includer a cover letter stating your date availability and that you wish to be programmed as part of the Festival and which venue.  These letters will help us with funding for our shortlisted candidates.
