We are looking for an emerging admin brainiac to assist Basement Theatre’s Programmer with  the curation and care of artists that come through our space. Alongside helping to create the seasonal programmes that happen (Summer/Pride/Fringe, Winter/Matariki and Spring), you’ll be supporting Basement’s development programmes, delivering weekly admin tasks, and will be responsible for the administrative upkeep of receiving, processing and contracting shows that happen at Basement.

 

The person we are after will have a strong passion for the arts, an interest in administrative based work, want to work in a dynamic environment, and will be hungry to learn. They will want to make a positive difference to their community and to help define a career for themselves. 

 

Please note this opportunity is for current New Zealand Residents only. 

 

Dates: 3rd May - 22 December 2021, part-time

This is a contract position which works out to a maximum of 12 hours per week at $24 per hour.

 

Activities include:

 

  • Encouraging and soliciting submissions from a wide range of practitioners including promoting submissions to the Programming Assistant’s networks.

  • Reading submissions and assisting with programming and scheduling Basement’s artistic content. 

  • Assisting with the drafting of artist contracts.

  • Assisting in answering artist queries and undertaking any relevant pastoral care required.
     

  • Assisting in the administration and delivery of Basement Theatre’s artist development programmes where necessary. 

  • Creating content for Basement’s Basement Maker’s social media channels.

  • Supporting the Programme Manager to attend shows at Basement and manaaki Basement’s artists on Opening Nights.

  • Supporting the execution of Basement’s programming philosophy as directed by the Programmer.

 

Desirable Skills/ Attributes: 

 

  • Dedication to high levels of artist care

  • An exceptional ability to engage with diverse groups of people 

  • Good relationships and networks within the local performing arts industry

  • An understanding of arts practice through an intersectional lens

  • Strong accuracy and attention to detail

  • A responsible and self-motivated work ethic 

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills

  • A good understanding and level of experience with Google Drive, Word and Excel

  • Comfortable with Facebook and Instagram

Previous experience required:

  • Experience in producing and/or creating independent theatre shows within Aotearoa.
