The New Zealand Comedy Trust was established in 1995 to manage the NZ International Comedy Festival and foster the growth of comedy as a performing art in New Zealand.

The Comedy Fest has since grown into one of the most loved boutique events of its type in the world.  Held simultaneously over three weeks in Auckland and Wellington during May each year, the Festival is now a major nationwide event with a total attendance of around 90,000 each year.

As the Event Producer, you will be part of a busy team responsible for the smooth running of the 2022 Comedy Festival. Alongside the Festival Producer, you will produce a range of NZ Comedy Trust shows within the Festival (from large commercial shows, to intimate late night gigs, to kids’ shows), as well as supporting the Festival Producer in delivering the Best Foods Comedy Gala, our flagship event. Responsibilities include budgeting, ticketing, scheduling and logistics, reporting, and production administration.

You will also deliver a range of artist and industry development initiatives, both within the Festival and throughout the year. In addition, the role supports the Festival Producer in general operations delivery.

To succeed in the role you will have:

  • Previous experience in arts or event management, including producing live events.
  • Effective budgeting, scheduling and administration skills.
  • Excellent communication, relationship management and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work to tight deadlines and to work effectively under pressure.
  • A high level of initiative, self-motivation and enthusiasm.
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a small, dedicated team.
  • A passion for comedy and live performance.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Producer to join a small team in making a vital contribution to the comedy industry in Aotearoa.

The NZ Comedy Trust aims to elevate New Zealand comedy as a celebrated and integral feature of the arts sector.  We create opportunities to develop, promote and grow a sustainable and representative comedy industry in Aotearoa.  At all levels of programming and within our team, the New Zealand Comedy Trust champions the values of representation, contributing to a culture of inclusion and celebration.

This is a fixed term position running from September 2021 to June 2022, based in Auckland Central.  More information about the work of the Trust can be found at www.comedyfestival.co.nz and www.comedytrust.org.nz.
