Reporting to the Maori Heritage Manager Central/Southern, and as a member of Te Tira Maori Heritage Team, the Maori Heritage Advisor will provide input to the Maori heritage component of the archaeological authority and resource management processes, consult with kaitiaki to manage their heritage, register wahi tapu/areas and historic places of interest to Maori, promote the conservation of Maori buildings and other general tasks.
A tertiary qualification and/or technical competency and experience in a relevant professional field such as Maori heritage, archaeology, anthropology, conservation, history, education, advocacy, planning or resource management is required. Experience working with iwi/hapu/kaitiaki/runanga/runaka and other Maori organisations, and key customers is essential, together with a working knowledge of the relevant statutory and legislative processes and an understanding of tikanga Maori, the Treaty of Waitangi and proficiency in te reo Maori.
