Waiheke Art Gallery is delighted to be hosting its first solo exhibition of sculptural works from well-known Waiheke artist Kazu Nakagawa.
Nakagawa’s work will be familiar to Waiheke residents, particularly his design and construction of the exterior artwork to the Waiheke Community Library and for Ka mua Ka muri, a sculpture exhibited during the 2019 Sculpture on the Gulf (later gifted to the people of Christchurch following the mosque shootings that year). More recently, Nakagawa won the Premier Prize in Waiheke Art Galley’s 2023 Small Sculpture Prize Exhibition.
In this new exhibition Nakagawa explores profound questions of belonging and identity though exquisite sculptural works that value time, care and the hand-crafted. The exhibition will feature poetry regarding Nakagawa’s life and art written in collaboration with renowned Aotearoa poet, Jenny Bornholdt.
This exhibition is in association with Trish Clark Gallery.
