Māoriland Film Festival (MFF) returns to Ōtaki from 24–28 March 2026 for five powerful days celebrating Indigenous storytelling from around the globe.

Now in its 13th year, Māoriland is the world’s largest Indigenous film festival - a vibrant gathering of filmmakers, artists, rangatahi, and audiences from Aotearoa and across the international Indigenous world.

Set in the heart of Ōtaki, just 45 minutes north of Wellington, Māoriland is a community-based celebration of Indigenous storytelling connecting film and arts experiences.

What to Expect in 2026

  • 100+ feature films, documentaries and short films

  • World premieres and special screenings

  • Industry panels and NATIVE Minds conversations

  • Rangatahi-focused programming and youth premieres

  • Toi Matarau art exhibition

  • Annual Māoriland Red Carpet Party

Filmmakers from around the world

A Global Indigenous Network

Māoriland is part of an international circle of Indigenous film festivals spanning from the Southern to Northern Hemisphere. The festival strengthens global creative connections while remaining firmly rooted in the tribal lands of Ngāti Raukawa ki te Tonga.

The Māoriland Hub (68 Main Street, Ōtaki) serves as a year-round centre for Indigenous screen excellence and becomes the beating heart of the festival during March.
