Contract: 2 months PT Fixed Term Contract (~16h p/week)
Location: Hybrid / remote
We are seeking an experienced and motivated media professional for an exciting hybrid contract developing content for an educational online course.
The course is designed to help people better understand the media landscape in Aotearoa New Zealand. Its content will cover our changing media climate, how stories are shaped, and how framing and representation affects the public perception and wellbeing of minority communities. It will contain tools for improving media literacy and offer practical solutions for better representation.
About the Opportunity:
We are seeking an experienced media professional to help research, design, and develop compelling course content.
This contract will focus on shaping the course structure and developing accessible, engaging material. The contractor will draw on their media knowledge, networks, and storytelling ability to bring together existing resources and develop new content where needed.
Key Responsibilities
Develop the overall outline and storyboard for the online course
Review and assess existing internal resources and relevant material
Source and collate external resources and examples
Identify gaps in available content
Connect with media professionals and content creators to explore partnerships for developing audio/visual material
Edit and shape developed material into clear, engaging course modules
Assist with assembling the final course content
Time allowing, this role could include promotion and dissemination of the final resource
Skills and Experience
Strong storytelling, research, and writing skills
Broad understanding of media in Aotearoa New Zealand (news, broadcasting, digital and social media, podcasts)
Understanding of how media coverage can reinforce bias and discrimination which harms communities
Experience working with diverse communities
Ability to connect people, ideas, and resources
Established networks in media/communications
