About our organisation

Hynds Foundation is a charitable trust that both delivers and supports programmes across the Arts sector in Aotearoa New Zealand. We also integrate Community Wellbeing, Education, the Environment, and Health pillars into our giving portfolio.

Programme Overview

Hynds Foundation and Gillies Metaltech welcome applications for the 2026 Crucible Artist Residency, based in the Gillies foundry in Ōamaru. We offer a distinctive creative context integrating Victorian-era architecture, skilled craftsmen, and a community that knows how to celebrate its makers.

What's included

Artists apply with a proposal – two artists will be selected for the residency.

A stipend of $650 gross per week for 13 weeks.

Up to $5000 for materials, technical support, and exhibition setup.

Your own studio space, as well as shared spaces, in the foundry Pattern Shop.

Crucible Gallery space for a public exhibition during the Ōamaru Victorian Heritage Celebrations (12-15 November).

Accommodation nearby the foundry.
